Ambassador Sylvie Lucas participates in the Security Council's open debate on the Working methods of the Council

Published Wednesday November 30 2011

In her intervention, the Permanent Representative welcomed the progress made by the Council in the implementation of presidential note S/2010/507 and encouraged the Council to continue to progress in this direction, in particular to further develop new ways of informal dialogue with non-member States of the Council and parties interested in situations on the Council’s agenda in its practice, to use "Arria formula" meetings more regularly, to improve the transparence of the deliberations of the subsidiary bodies of the council and to intensify relations with regional and sub-regional organisations on issues pertaining to international peace and security. She welcomed initiatives by the rotating Presidency of the Council to better prepare the Council to react to new threats to international peace and security and to act in a preventive way. In her capacity as Chairperson of the Guinea Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission, she dwelled on the need to further intensify the relations between the Security Council and the PBC, given the particular experience and expertise that the Commission can contribute to the Council's work.
