Ambassador Sylvie Lucas presides over the 2009 United Nations Pledging Conference for Development Activities
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Lucas stressed the importance of the annual United Nations Pledging Conference for Development Activities as an important opportunity to give meaning to the often repeated resolve to improve stability and predictability in funding UN’s operational activities for development. She called on Member States to renew their commitments and their support for our common objectives : development and prosperity for all.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, Mr. Jean Olinger, recalled in his statement, the determination of the Luxembourg Government to pursue, in particular in these difficult times of successive and multidimensional crises, its efforts in official development assistance and to continue to do its part towards realizing the international development goals. Luxembourg has been since 2000 among the very few countries that contribute 0.7% of their gross national income (GNI) to official development assistance (ODA). In 2008, Luxembourg devoted 0.95% of its GNI to ODA.
