Arms Trade Treaty : Luxembourg co-sponsors the Boston Symposium (28-30 September 2010)

Published Thursday September 30 2010

From 28 to 30 September 2010, a symposium organized by the University of Massachusetts Boston with the co-sponsorship of Luxembourg in particular has allowed national delegates as well as researchers and representatives of non-governmental organizations to have a fruitful exchange of views on the issues linked to the preparation of the Arms Trade Treaty. All Member States of the United Nations had been invited to participate in this event.

In this context, it is recalled that on 2 December 2009, the General Assembly adopted resolution 64/48 by which it decided « to convene a United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty to meet for four consecutive weeks in 2012 to elaborate a legally binding instrument on the highest possible common international standards for the transfer of conventional arms ».

For further details, please consult the program of the symposium as well as the four background papers and the discussion questions which had been prepared for the symposium on the Arms Trade Treaty.
