Assistance to the Palestinian refugees: Luxembourg strengthens its partnership with UNRWA further
In her statement at the Ad Hoc Committee of the General Assembly for the Announcement of Voluntary Contributions to the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Ms. Marie-Josée Jacobs, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of Luxembourg welcomed the fact that Luxembourg has been invited this year to become a member of the Advisory Commission of UNRWA. The Agency is Luxembourg’s main partner when it comes to assisting the Palestinian people. In order to strengthen this partnership even further, Luxembourghas decided to conclude a multi-year agreement with UNRWA. The Minister finally announced that in 2012, Luxembourg will increase substantially its voluntary contribution to the general budget of UNRWA. This contribution will go up from 2.75 to 3.75 million euro, or approximately 5.1 million dollars, which represents an increase of more than 36%. In the margin of the Ad Hoc Committee meeting, Minister Jacobs had a meeting with Ms. Margot B. Ellis, Deputy Commissioner-General of UNRWA.
