Chargé d’affaires a.i. Olivier Maes participates in the open debate of the Security Council on its working methods
In his intervention, the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of Luxembourg to the United Nations, Deputy Permanent Representative Olivier Maes acknowledged progress made during these last months, while noting that there is still room for improving the effectiveness of the Council’s work, for increasing its transparency and for strengthening the interaction between the Security Council and non-members who are in a position to bring added value, such as the Chairs of the Peacebuilding Commission country-specific configurations. He underlined the need to ensure the best possible interaction between the Security Council and concerned regional and subregional organisations, such as the African Union and the League of Arab States. Luxembourg also supports initiatives taken in recent years in order to better prepare the Security Council to anticipate threats to international peace and security. He concluded by stating that as an elected member of the Security Council for the mandate 2013-2014, Luxembourg will spare no effort to contribute to the further improvement of the working methods of the Council.
