Contributions by the Luxembourg Government following the recent natural disasters in the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Samoa and Indonesia

The Luxembourg Government has decided to allocate a total of 575,000 EUR in humanitarian aid to assist the populations of the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Samoa and Indonesia recently affected by natural disasters.

 

In response to tropical stom “Ketsana” and subsequent flooding in the Philippines, the Luxembourg Government has decided to contribute 100,000 EUR to the World Food Programme and 50,000 EUR to the Red Cross for the distribution of food and basic necessity items.

 

The Luxembourg Government will further donate 125,000 EUR to Care in Luxembourg and the Vietnamese Red Cross for their efforts to help affected populations in Vietnam and 50,000 EUR for emergency assistance in Laos.

 

Following the devastating tsunami that hit Samoa, the Luxembourg Government has decided to support the efforts of the local Caritas organization with the amount of 50,000 EUR.

 

The Government has furthermore decided to allocate a total of 200,000 EUR to Caritas Luxembourg and Care in Luxembourg to support the emergency efforts in the region of Sumatra in Indonesia, in response to the earthquakes that hit the region on 30 September 2009.
