The following elements were read out to the press by the President of the Security Council after consultations held on 6 August 2014:

"The members of the Security Council heard a briefing from the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Burundi and a statement from the Permanent Representative of Burundi to the United Nations.

The members of the Security Council are closely following the situation in Burundi and will continue to monitor developments.

The members of the Security Council take note of the progressive transfer of responsibilities from BNUB to the United Nations Country team.  They however request BNUB to continue its work until the last day of its mandate, which expires on 31 December 2014.

The members of the Security Council positively take note of the commitment made by the Government of Burundi to ensure the holding of free and peaceful elections and broader participation of the political opposition, and women.

The members of the Security Council remain concerned by continued politically-motivated violence in Burundi.

The members of the Security Council encourage the Burundian authorities to create the conditions for inclusive elections through dialogue, an open political environment, the end of political violence and the fight against impunity."
