Fight against HIV/AIDS : Luxembourg shows continued commitment
Luxembourg took part in the 11 June 2012 plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly dedicated to the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS. In her statement, the Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations, Ambassador Sylvie Lucas recalled Luxembourg’s long-standing commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS, which is a priority both at a national level and at the level of Luxembourg’s cooperation with the developing world. Luxembourg is convinced that the time is ripe to make substantial progress in this fight. It is in this spirit that Luxembourg has signed on 22 May 2012 in Geneva a strategic partnership agreement with UNAIDS for the period 2012-2015. This multi-year agreement guarantees a funding at a level at least equal to that of previous years and gives UNAIDS greater predictability and greater flexibility in the use of funds. Ambassador Lucas assured that Luxembourg will continue to engage tirelessly to reach the goals the United Nations set themselves collectively for 2015.
The same day, Ambassador Lucas co-chaired with Janet Zeenat Karim, Chargée d’affaires a.i. of Malawi, and in the presence of Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS, a panel discussion on « Achieving 2015 Targets through Strategic AIDS Financing ».
