Formal meeting of the Security Council Working Group on children and armed conflict

The Working Group on children and armed conflict met on 6 June 2014 in formal consultations in order to hear a briefing from the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for children and armed conflict, Ms Leila Zerrougui, and the Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Ambassador Smail Chergui, on the cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union in the protection of children in armed conflict including on the first open debate organized on that topic by the African Union Peace and Security Council on 8 Mai 2014.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General briefed the working group on the same occasion on her travel to Yemen (13-15 mai 2014) during which the Government signed an action plan with the United Nations to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by the Yemeni Armed Forces.
