Guinea-Bissau : adoption of resolution 2103 (2013) renewing the mandate of UNIOGBIS

Published Wednesday May 22 2013

The Security Council adopted unanimously resolution 2103 (2013), extending the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) by 12 months. The resolution, which was cosponsored by France, Luxembourg, Morocco, Pakistan, Rwanda and Togo, is readjusting the mandate of UNIOGBIS, to allow it to accomplish tasks which are more focused on political accompaniment in view of the upcoming elections in Guinea-Bissau, as well as for the in-depth reforms the country needs, notably in the fields of security, defence and justice.
