Humanitarian Assistance to Pakistan

Published Friday September 17 2010

Following the severe floods suffered by Pakistan, the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is taking an active part in the efforts of the international community to bring help to the population affected by this disaster.

To this day, Luxembourg has provided a financial aid amounting to 1.32 million euro in support of the emergency relief programmes set up by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as well as several Luxembourg-based NGOs.

Luxembourg has also decided to make an in-kind contribution by deploying a water purification unit to the Sindh province, in coordination with the Pakistani authorities. This water purification unit will be put at the disposal of UNICEF, who is the lead agency coordinating emergency relief operations in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector within the United Nations system.

Including the value of this in-kind contribution, the humanitarian aid provided by Luxembourg to the flood victims in Pakistan amounts to 1.80 million euro.
