Luxembourg and South Sudan establish diplomatic relations
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, H.E. Mr. Jean Asselborn, and the Chargé d'affaires of the Republic of South Soudan in Brussels, H.E. Dr. Francis Nazario, sign the Joint Communiqué by which Luxembourg and South Sudan establish diplomatic relations as of 14 December 2011.
Luxembourg was among the first countries to recognize the Republic of South Sudan on the day of its independence, 9 July 2011. Luxembourg is strongly committed to accompany the new nation on its path towards sustainable peace, development and prosperity. Luxembourg is already providing training for staff members of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, contributing to the United Nations Mine Action Service for demining activities in Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity and is actively involved in the humanitarian field through its global contribution aimed at mitigating the famine in the Horn of Africa. Luxembourg's newly developed telecommunications platform emergency.lu will be deployed in South Sudan in 2012.
