Luxembourg supports the UN in Iraq
The Government of Luxembourg has made a financial contribution of 850,000 USD to the United Nations in order to support the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, UNAMI. The contribution will be used to strengthen the security arrangements for the Mission, in particular the UN Guard Unit, in the context of the withdrawal of the United States Forces in Iraq.
With this contribution, Luxembourg underscores once again its steadfast support to UN peacekeeping operations and special political missions. The support to UNAMI follows previous contributions to support the UN presence in Iraq. It is part and parcel of a policy promoting effective multilateralism, which has led Luxembourg to support UN operational activities notably in Afghanistan, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Somalia, in Sudan and in South Sudan.
