Luxembourg supports the victims of the crisis in Libya
In view of the crisis in Libya, including its impact on the neighbouring countries, notably Tunisia and Egypt, Luxembourg will provide a financial aid in the amount of one million euro, or approximately 1.4 million US dollar, in the framework of the multiyear agreements it has signed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (HCR) and with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The support to ICRC which amounts to 500.000 euro focuses on medical emergency assistance. The contribution of the same amount to the HCR aims notably to help alleviating the plight of refugees at the border between Libya and Tunisia. The assistance of Luxembourg is additional to the humanitarian assistance provided by the European Union as a whole. The European Commission has just allocated 30 million euro to assist the refugees who are fleeing the violent clashes in Libya.
