Luxembourg takes part in the 2010 United Nations Pledging Conference for Development Activities
At the conference, the Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, Ms. Sylvie Lucas underlined that in these times of lingering crisis, Luxembourg is more determined than ever to pursue its efforts in official development assistance (ODA) in order to contribute to fighting poverty and realizing the Millennium Development Goals. She recalled that Luxembourg has been since 2000 among the very few countries which contribute at least 0.7% of their gross national income (GNI) to ODA. In 2009, Luxembourg’s ODA has crossed the threshold of 1% and reached a level of 1.04% of GNI.
Ambassador Lucas highlighted the fact that Luxembourg counts among the top 10 donors to the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and that it wishes to pursue its support for gender equality, women’s rights and empowerment of women by supporting UN Women, the new Entity of the United Nations for gender equality and the empowerment of women.
