Luxembourg takes part in the 2012 United Nations Pledging Conference for Development Activities
At the Conference, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, Mr. Olivier Maes underlined that in these times of lingering crisis, Luxembourg is more determined than ever to pursue its efforts in official development assistance (ODA) in order to contribute to fighting poverty and realizing all the Millennium Development Goals. He recalled that since the year 2000, Luxembourg has achieved the target set by the United Nations General Assembly by devoting at least 0.7% of gross national income (GNI) to ODA. In 2013, Luxembourg will maintain its ODA level of 1%.
Mr. Maes highlighted the fact that in 2013, subject to the approval of the budget by Parliament, Luxembourg will maintain its contributions to the Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the United Nations at the level of 2012. Counting both voluntary budget contributions and thematic contributions, Luxembourg thus intends to contribute in 2013 a total of 18,895,000 euro, or about 24 million USD to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), to UN Women and to the World Food Programme (WFP).
