Minister Marie-Josée Jacobs at the Fourth Conference on Least Developed Countries in Istanbul
From 9 to 11 May 2011, the Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Marie-Josée Jacobs, participated in Istanbul in the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC), of which Luxembourg was one of the Vice-Chairs.
In her speech before the plenary, the Minister highlighted that Luxembourg's development cooperation works as a priority with a number of LDCs while being particularly sensitive to situations of fragility that threaten regional peace. Luxembourg's official development assistance (ODA), which reached 1.09% of the gross national income last year, continues to be entirely allocated as grants and in an untied manner. Mrs. Jacobs committed to fully implementing the recommendations of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the least developed countries in Luxembourg's development cooperation.
The Minister co-chaired one of the high level thematic debates of the Conference on "good governance at all levels", together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin. She also took part in the debate on " Promoting Women's economic empowerment through financial inclusion and agricultural development ", co-organized by Austria, Luxembourg and the UN Capital Development Fund.
