Non-proliferation/Iran: Security Council Debate

Published Thursday September 05 2013

Today, the Security Council was presented the latest report by the Sanctions committee established following resolution 1737 (2006), imposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran. While recognizing the Sanctions Committee’s hard work, Ambassador Sylvie Lucas deplored its lack of progress on many cases and its failure to adopt any of the recommendations from the final report of the Panel of Experts. She then called upon the new leadership in Iran to commit as soon as possible to constructive negotiations with the E3+3 and to take the measures necessary to demonstrate to the international community that its nuclear programme has strictly peaceful ends.
