Security Council Briefing by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office

The Security Council was briefed by H.E. Mr Leonid Kozhara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in his function of Chairperson-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for the year 2013. The briefign of H.E. Mr Kozhara concerned the OSCE's priorities under the Ukraine's presidency and was followed by statements by the Members of the Security Council.

In her statement, H.E. Ms Sylvie Lucas, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg, commended the important role played by OSCE in conflict resolution and the promotion of human rights in Europe and Central Asia; she welcomed the efforts undertaken to further the cooperation between the United Nations and OSCE. She underlined Luxembourg's commitment to the human dimension of security, which should be central in the organisation. Finally, she reaffirmed that during its presidency of the OSCE's Forum for Security Co-operation, Luxembourg would support efforts to improve coordination in the field of small arms and light weapons.
