Somalia: Security Council Debate

The Security Council held a debate on Somalia, chaired by Mark Simmonds, Minister for Africa of the United Kingdom. In a  statement (S/PRST/2013/7) , the Council underscored the importance of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to become an integrated mission until 1st January 2014. It also underlined the role for the Mission to support the Somali Federal Government in the coordination of international assistance, and called upon the cooperation of international partners and organisations, notably the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) and the European Union.
