Published Tuesday December 24 2013

The Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2132 (2013), which calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for the opening of a dialogue to resolve the unprecedented humanitarian and security crisis in South Sudan. This resolution authorises the Secretary-General to strengthen the capacity of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for the protection of civilians, by temporarily using assets from other Council-mandated Missions, in particular MONUSCO, UNAMID, UNISFA, UNOCI and UNMIL.
