Statement by the Guinea Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission
The members of the Guinea Configuration of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission welcome the holding of the first round of the presidential election, on 11 October 2015, in a peaceful environment and welcome the important participation of the Guinean citizens.
Pending the results of the vote, the members of the Configuration call on all parties to exercise restraint and encourage them to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed on election day. They encourage all parties to refrain from any statements that may lead to unrest. Any possible electoral disputes should be resolved peacefully and through the established institutions and legal procedures.
The Configuration encourages the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to continue to act in utmost transparency.
The members of the Guinea Configuration stand with the people of Guinea to accompany the country during this important period.
