Support to Afghanistan: Deputy Prime Minister Jean Asselborn speaks at the Tokyo Conference
Upon invitation of the two organizing States, Japan and Afghanistan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn took part in the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan which was held on 8 July 2012.
At the Tokyo Conference, the international community pledged its support to Afghanistan for the next decade, the “Transformation Decade 2015-2024”. The sustainable economic development of Afghanistan was at the heart of the conference.
In his statement, Minister Asselborn recalled Luxembourg’s commitment to Afghanistan since the year 2000. He underlined that Luxembourg will continue to invest in the future of Afghanistan, through support to the training of security forces and through the financing of development cooperation projects in order to improve the livelihoods of the Afghan population. Regarding regional development efforts, Minister Asselborn welcomed progress made. He highlighted the active support which Luxembourg is lending to projects aiming at improving cross-border cooperation.
