United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) : The Security Council adopts resolution 2131 (2013)

Published Wednesday December 18 2013

The Security Council extended today for six months the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) deployed on the Golan Heights. UNDOF, established in May 1974 by Security Council resolution 350 (1974), has the mandate to monitor the implementation of the disengagement agreement signed by Israel and Syria on 31 May 1974, including compliance of the cease-fire between Israel and Syria. Resolution 2131 (2013) , adopted unanimously this morning, calls on all parties to the Syrian conflict to stop their military operations in the area of operations of UNDOF, where tensions remain strong, mainly because of the ongoing war in Syria.
